Escondido's Police Department is asking the City Council to accept $51,013 in state grant money to buy equipment for its forensic services unit.
The money would come from the California Office of Emergency Services through what is called the Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Program. It would cover equipment meant to make the department's forensic science work better and faster, and it would also cover the costs of keeping the Forensic Services Unit accredited.
The council is being asked to pass Resolution No. 2026-100, which would let the Chief of Police, or someone he designates, take the grant, sign the paperwork needed to carry out and finish the work the grant pays for, and make the budget change required before the city can spend the money.
