The Escondido City Council approved paying Palm Engineering Construction Company, Inc. an additional $131,340 to build a concrete patio with retaining walls and sidewalks at the Mountain View Park pickleball courts, and cleared the way for up to $45,000 more if the site needs maintenance access. The council voted 5-0, on a motion by White seconded by C. Garcia.
The patio is meant to serve as a gathering space and possibly as an area the city could rent out for events. The extra work was added to the existing construction agreement for the pickleball courts through what the city calls a change order, a written amendment to the contract the mayor signs on the city's behalf. The $45,000 is a ceiling rather than a bill: it covers a third change order the city expects it may need, and only if more money turns out to be required for getting maintenance access to the site.
City staff had recommended approval. The item came from the Development Services Department, headed by Director of Development Services Kevin Snyder, and was presented to the council by project manager Michael Tully.
